Training is a key element to enhance the quality of any organization and its ability to respond to the new development. It is important for Police service because it operates in a constantly changing environment. After independence, in order to provide comprehensive professional training including the international policing for current and future leadership, the need for setting up of a Police Staff College was keenly felt by the management and the government. In late eighties, the Police Commission (1977) recommended for the establishment of a Staff College for high-level in-service professional training of senior police officers. After a decade, another Police Commission Report of 1988-89 impressed upon the idea and underscored the importance of a liberal education for senior Police officers. In pursuance of those reports, a formal proposal was sent to the government in 1994 and approval of the government came on 14 December 1998. Police Staff College Bangladesh, the apex training institution for the senior Police officers, emerged as a statutory organization in 2002 under ‘Police Staff College Act 2002’. At present, a Rector of the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police heads the College. Two MDS (Addl. DIG) and four Directors equivalent to the rank of Superintendent of Police assist him. A Board of Governors headed by Honourable Home Minister guides the College management. The College has a vision for the future. It encourages the visitors and guest speakers from diverse backgrounds. Civil servants, academics and professionals from various fields come often to share their thoughts, experiences and ideas with the participants, which has made the institution a center of excellence that blends theory and practice. The College attaches utmost importance on the quality of training. All the Courses are rich-textured, well-focused and quality-assured. With modern training aids and appropriate training methodology, the College establishes congenial learning environment for the participants. Since its establishment on 30 November 2000, the College has imparted training to a good number of officers of different ranks (ASP to DIG).
