Mujibnagar Government Degree college is named after ‘Mujibnagar’ the origin land of liberation and the temporary capital of Bangladesh. Al-Haz A.Ka. M. Idris Ali, prominent politician and social activities, along with some local education enthusiasts established the college as ‘Shimanto Degree College’ 10 August, 1983 at Dariapur under Mujibnagar upazilla. And it has been so done to facilitate the higher education of the poor students of this area. Later on, the college was named Mujibnagar Degree College. Ministry of education nationalized the college on 26 June, 2012 as per declaration of the nationalization of the college by the Prime Minister, The People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina on 17 April, 2001 and 2011, the Mujibnagar Dibosh. Then, the college is named Mujibnagar Government Degree college.
