SHAHID AHSANUL HAQUE COLLEGE - 2725

KALSHA (RATHBARI) , SANTAHAR, ADAMDIGHI - 5891

Retrospective reflection in establishing Shaheed Ahsanul Haque College, Santahar. Santahar, the municipality town, under Adamdighi upozilla of Bogra district has been widely known as the township of Traditional Santahar Railway Junction since British rule in India. Due to good railway and road communication, food autarky and flood free situation, many people of different regions have made permanent settlement in this area. As a result there has been a remarkable progress in the field of trade and commerce, education, religious harmony, literature, culture and sports which have given vent to a calm and quiet atmosphere of mutual cooperation both in political and civil life. Being inhabited with a population of above one million, there are about thirty kindergarten, primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in total, but there is only one government college at Santahar for a good number of students who come out successful in the S.S.C. examinations every year. In the face of growing demand of people of the region for higher education, the political personalities, business magnets, renowned educationists, journalists, head of religious and social organizations assembled together, focused on the need of higher education and resolved to establish a private college at Santahar after the name of heroic child and brave freedom fighter of Santahar, Shaheed Bir Bikram lieutenant A.K.M. Ahsanul Haque nick name Shapan, son of Alhaz Md. Ansar ali and Begum Amena khatun, was born of a noble family at Santahar on the First of December, 1955. This dauntless heroic and outstanding meritorious son while being a student of class 8 in Kalsha Ahsanullah institute at Santahar, qualified to be admitted in class 7 in Rajshahi Cadet College at Sardah. He showed his academic feat being placed 7th in the S.S.C examination of 1973 under the board of Secondary and Higher Secondary education, Rajshahi. In 1975, after passing his H.S.C examination with distinction, he got admitted in Rajshahi University in the department of Geology and Mining for graduation with honors. In the same year, he joined the Bangladesh Army for getting commissioned in the 3rd short commission batch. After being commissioned he joined as the 2nd lieutenant in the infantry core of Bangladesh Army. Then he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. As a lieutenant, he was deployed in the Chittagong Hill tracts of Khagrachari at Kaptai Mohenderchara, an inaccessible perilous hilly region, in 1978. On the 2nd September of 1978, his camp was attacked by surprise. To defend his contingent and the interest of the country against the insurgency of Santi Bahini, this valiant soldier didn’t surrender to the enemy in spite of extreme inconvenience and adversity. While fighting fiercely and fearlessly, he was shot by enemy bullets and breathed his last upholding the dignity and honor of the nation at the cost of his own life. It is worth mentioning that the day was the night of Sab-e-Kadr. For his undaunted chivalry and priceless sacrifice the Bangladesh government has conferred on him posthumous honor Bir Bikram. In Bhatiary military Academy an auditorium named Ahsan Model room, Ahsanpur village in Longodu Upazilla, and some roads have been named after his name to immortalize his memory in the history of Bangladesh. To expedite and enkindle the light of education, the generous and education loving mother of martyred A.K.M. Ahsanul Haque has been gracious enough to take initiative to found a college named Shaheed Ahsanul Haque College on a land area of one acre and fifty decimals in a decent bounteous natural environment. The then parliament member, Md. Al haj Mojid Talukder, Ex-M.P and Government of Adamdighi Upazilla, Md. Kasimuddin, Municipality Chairman, Md. Murshed, the Elder brother of the Shaheed Ahsanul Haque, Dr. A.K.M. Azizul Haque in particular and the people from all walks of life of this zone have extended their all-out support and co-operation in establishing the college. At present the number of teachers and staff is 54. The college which is totally free from politics is having higher secondary section, technical (BM) branch and BA, BSC and BBS braches in the Degree level. The number of students and the results since the inception of this college is quite satisfactory. It is the general and ardent desire and expectation of all concerned that this institution will remain ever memorable for its enormous contribution to the nation building activities. A.K.M. Asadul Haque Principal Shaheed Ahsanul Haque Degree College, Santahar.
