On July 1, 1964, under the inspiration of Dr. A. Zaman, a prominent scholar of Jhalokati, he established a college called Jhalokati College in an old building on the banks of Sugandha river. Within a short time, the reputation of the college spread and the college was well established through the efforts of the common people. Subsequent river erosion caused most of the college campus to sink into the riverbed. The college was re-established in 1960 with the acquisition of 13.92 acres of land at its present location. The college was nationalized on March 1, 1971 and gradually returned to its present condition.Jhalokati Government College was established in 1984 and the college was nationalized in 1980. This is the only co-educational government college in this district. Jhalokati is a populous district town. This 50 year old and reputed college is running from higher secondary level to postgraduate / master’s degree.
